Support for Water Skills Academy Members from Canoe Wales after liquidation

Nov 14, 2023

Following the Water Skills Academy's (WSA) announcement of liquidation, British Canoeing, on behalf of Canoe Wales and the other national associations, proactively engaged in discussions to secure a support package for WSA members. Every WSA member has been reached out to via email to ensure they're informed of the situation.

This offer will ensure that WSA members will receive membership, be fully covered by insurance, and hold a waterways licence for 12 months free of charge through membership of Canoe Wales, British Canoeing, Scottish Canoe Association, and the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland for members based in their respective countries.

This offer will apply to all WSA members residing in Wales with a valid WSA membership at the time of liquidation, including recreational individuals and family members, alongside those who have received certification as a WSA SUP instructor.

To apply for a Canoe Wales membership please email admin@canoewales.com with evidence of your WSA Membership. Suitable evidence can be a photo or screenshot of your Tahdah WSA membership record, which includes your name, membership category and expiry date. Once this is sent to us, we will provide further instructions.

Those who hold WSA Instructor certifications and require professional indemnity insurance to continue teaching will need to provide both a current First Aid and Safeguarding Certificate as well as a copy of their WSA SUP Instructor certification. You will do this by uploading them to your Canoe Wales membership portal once you have joined. Instructions will be provided.

British Canoeing Awarding Body are awaiting more information from WSA with regards to being able to support other qualifications in this support package. We hope this will be resolved soon.
