ANTI-DOPING UPDATE

Over the last year Canoe Wales has been working towards becoming fully compliant with UKAD Assurance Framework. Currently we have now submitted 98% of our evidence towards compliance with 84% all approved.

Please see in the section below an  for update  of how we have made progress towards being fully UKAD complaint:

Anti-doping Updates for 2022

  • Anti-Doping Section on the Canoe Wales website had been updated to contain useful information a paddler would need to know about in terms of anti-doping and educating themselves to make informed choices.
  • We have a new Anti Doping education plan that launched this year and runs through to 2026, this plan was put together in conjunction with British Canoeing, Scottish Canoe Association and CANI. The strategic goals of this plan are:

ENGAGE - INFORM - EMPOWER

  • Raise awareness of clean sport and doping free behaviour to the competition paddling community.
  • Engage paddlers and support personnel across the competition pathway providing appropriate level information and understanding in order to create a culture of clean sport and avoid inadvertent doping.
  • Provide a range of targeted educational programmes to talent/development programme, national team and world class programme athletes and support personnel to provide them with the information, tools and understanding in order to compete clean.
  • Raise awareness of the British Canoeing’s Paddle Clean education programme and effectively deliver key messages through a range of communication channels.

  • Working in conjunction with British Canoeing to promote the clean paddle initiative through social media.
  • All Canoe Wales Performance and Talent staff will complete the UKAD clean coach course to ensure they have the required knowledge when working with young paddlers.
  • The terms of reference for Canoe Wales members have been updated to stipulate who the UKAD rules apply in terms of paddlers and support personnel licensed by Canoe Wales.
  • All Athletes, Coaches and Athlete Support Personnel on the Performance and Talent Pathway have received information regarding the prohibited list changes for 2022.
  • Looking to train more UKAD educators within Canoe Wales.

We continue to work with UKAD to better ourselves and to keep the paddlesport in Wales at the highest standard that our participants have come to expect. If you have any questions please contact our Anti Doping Lead: Thomas Power at thomas.power@canoewales.com
