Meet Emily King, Your New SUP Lead at Canoe Wales

Apr 17, 2024

An accomplished paddler and passionate coach, Emily King is the vibrant new SUP Lead at Canoe Wales.

Based in the picturesque Gower near Swansea, Emily's life revolves around water and wellness. Her extensive background in paddling and coaching makes her a natural fit for this role.

Emily's paddling journey spans nearly a decade of competing at the elite level both in the UK and internationally. She thrives in diverse water environments—from ocean shore breaks to white-water rapids. Her multidisciplinary approach has seen her excel in sprint racing, open water, and white-water paddling, making her a respected figure in the paddling community.

Originating from a surfing background, Emily was drawn to the dynamic and challenging nature of paddling. Her transition from surfing to SUP was fuelled by her love for adventure and her quest to push the boundaries of her abilities in various aquatic disciplines. Beyond the thrill of competition, Emily is deeply committed to mindfulness and mental health, integrating these aspects into her coaching to enrich the lives of her trainees. She also focuses on adventure paddling, regularly undertaking multiday trips around the Welsh coast and the annual circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight.

Joining Canoe Wales as the SUP Lead felt like a natural progression for Emily, aligning with her dedication to fostering a thriving paddling community. Her role allows her to share her expertise and passion with others, helping to elevate the sport within Wales and beyond.

Emily King is not just a champion paddler but a mentor and a motivator. At Canoe Wales, she looks forward to inspiring more individuals to take to the water, challenge themselves, and embrace the joys of paddling .
