I have grown up with a love for the outdoors, so when I heard about kayaking in an after school club, I immediately wanted to give it a go. 14 years later and I have been paddling ever since! The majority of those years have been spent in a slalom boat, where I represented Great Britain at a Junior, Under 23 and Senior level. But I recently made the switch to Polo and have been enjoying the new challenge!
Why do you play Canoe Polo?
Playing as part of a team is really fun and rewarding both on and off the water.
Also, we play indoors at our local swimming pool which means I can stay warm in winter!
Where and how do you do it?
I play for
Rhondda Rhinos and we train in the swimming pool at Ystrad Sports Centre.
What do you like about it?
Polo is an exiting and competitive sport. It never gets boring as there is a wide range of skills to learn, so there is always something new to try and it never feels repetitive.
How did you get into polo?
After taking a step back from competing in Canoe Slalom, I was looking to keep paddling but in a more relaxed and fun way.
Canoe Polo was exactly that!
Why do you think other people should do it?
Canoe Polo gives an unique experience where you can play as a team while being on the water. There is a friendly community and atmosphere. Polo caters for all abilities, so whether you want to excel to the top of the league or just enjoy the experience, there is something for everyone.
