Canoe Wales membership and club affiliation provide our members and clubs with comprehensive liability insurance cover so that you can have complete peace of mind when paddling or coaching.


We also offer our members access to discounted craft and equipment insurance to cover your canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and paddles.

Member and club liability insurance information

Canoe Wales partners with British Canoeing and Marsh | Bluefin Sport to provide a holistic insurance solution. It covers affiliated clubs, members, coaches and volunteers with Public Liability, Employers Liability, Directors and Officers Liability and Professional Indemnity, all up to a limit of £10 million.

Why do I need insurance?

Members


  • Public Liability - worldwide cover for your legal liability of up to £10,000,000 (£250 excess)
  • Club Associate members receive Public Liability insurance for club activities only
  • This cover protects you if you cause an accident injuring or damaging someone else or someone else’s property while paddling
  • Compensation is paid from the insurers to the person pursuing the claim so that you do not have to pay

Coaches


  • Public Liability - cover for your legal liability of up to £10,000,000 (£250 Excess)
  • Professional Indemnity - cover for the club's or coaches legal liability of up to £10,000,000 (£1,000 Excess)
  • Professional Indemnity insurance is cover that protects coaches who provide advice or a service to the people they are coaching.
  • It protects coaches against legal costs and claims for damages to third parties which may arise out of an act, omission or breach of their professional duty in the course of their coaching.

Clubs


  • Public Liability - cover for your legal liability of up to £10,000,000 (£250 Excess)
  • Professional Indemnity - cover for the club's or coaches legal liability of up to £10,000,000 (£1,000 Excess)
  • Directors and Officers – cover for club committee members of up to £5,000,000
  • Employers Liability – cover for clubs in respect of claims for injuries made by employees or volunteers, up to £10,000,000
  • Abuse cover up to £2m (£2,500 Excess)

What should I do in the event of an incident? 

In the event of an incident which may give rise to an insurance claim, there are two steps you need to follow:

 

  1. You should first complete an incident report using the British Canoeing online incident report form.
  2. You'll then need to contact our insurance broker Marsh | Bluefin Sport on 0345 872 5060 or sport@bluefinsport.co.uk
