Help Dwr Cymru Welsh Water stop river pollution

Jen Browning • Jul 11, 2018

You can help to stop river pollution by reporting to Dwr Cymru Welsh Water immediately if you see sewage pollution in a water course.

Please see this important message from Dwr Cymru Welsh Water:

Help Look After our Rivers

Did you know that Dwr Cymru Welsh Water are a non-for profit Water company suppling 828 million litres of water daily to 3 million customers, and maintaining 30,000 km of sewers and 838 sewage treatment works? As a result of our large infrastructure we have a high number of sewer pipes which run alongside, and also cross over and under rivers and streams. We also have pipe outfalls which act as pressure relief systems to ensure homes and properties are not flooded.

The majority of the time we have no issues with our network of sewers but occasionally, and sometimes in situations out of our control - such as blockages, there are discharges of sewage into watercourses.

We are very keen to put these incidents right - we will respond to reported incidents as soon as possible so that we can prevent or mitigate any potential impact.

We recognise that there are a number of organisations like yourselves using waterways on a regular basis. You can really help us identify problems quickly when things go wrong. This will help us resolve issues at the earliest opportunity and reduce risk of serious pollution incidents.

For any pollution incident that is reported to us we guarantee that we will inform Natural Resources Wales (NRW) or the Environment Agency (EA).

What can you do to help?

Please pass on our See it Report It Stop it hotline number 0800 085 3968 and website www.seereportstop.com to your members. By doing this your members can report sewage related incidents directly to our dedicated team and we will dispatch crews to investigate.

Your actions can help reduce the risk of pollution to our watercourses and achieve a cleaner and better environment for all of its users.
