Changes to COVID-19 Travel Guidance Announced

Jen Browning • Dec 04, 2020

With new COVID-19 regulations coming into effect today (4 December) at 6pm, there are a few important changes to travel guidance affecting paddlers.

The main change for you to be aware of is that travel is now permitted between Wales and Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas of England. This means that:

  • You can travel to a Tier 1 or Tier 2 area in England to go paddling.
  • Paddlers from Tier 1 or Tier 2 areas in England can travel anywhere in Wales to go paddling.
  • Visitors from Tier 1 or Tier 2 areas in England can attend a paddling event or course held in Wales.

However, it’s also important to be aware that:

  • You should continue to follow all of our current guidance about group sizes, cleaning equipment and COVID-19 safety protocols.
  • When visiting England, you should follow the current guidance from British Canoeing, as there are different rules in England.
  • There should be no travel between Wales and Tier 3 areas in England.
  • Welsh Government are still advising people to avoid travel between Wales and England where possible – so while it is no longer illegal to travel between Wales and England, we do suggest you consider whether that travel is necessary at the current time.

If you have any questions about the new regulations or need any help at all, as always our team is here to support you so please do get in touch.
