Etienne Chappell wins Young Sportsman of the Year

Canoe Wales is extremely excited to announce that canoe slalom athlete Etienne Chappell won the Carwyn James Young Sportsman 2019 award at the BBC Cymru Wales Sport Awards ceremony last night (10 Dec 2019).

These awards honour sporting heroes from all over Wales. Jointly held by BBC Cymru Wales and Sport Wales, they celebrate the best of Welsh sport from grassroots to elite.

Etienne competes in the Kayak single (K1) Junior class and takes part in Extreme Slalom events. He won a gold medal at both the opening 2019 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup event at Lee Valley in June and in the Men's Extreme Final at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Germany in September, making Eti the first person to win an international Extreme Slalom medal for Great Britain.
