Political parties pledge to support Clear Access Clear Waters campaign

Canoe Wales is extremely pleased to see political parties making commitments in their manifestos to tackle the issue of access on inland waters for paddlers in both Wales and England.

One of the main parties set out plans to:

"Significantly increase the amount of accessible green space, including protecting up to a million acres, completing the coastal path, exploring a ‘right to roam’ for waterways and creating a new designation of National Nature Parks"

... while another leading party pledged to:

"Restore access to the countryside by reopening lost public rights of way and creating new ones. We will grant to people in England and Wales the same right to roam over all landscapes as people in Scotland currently enjoy. We will protect and enhance access to inland waterways."

This positive news comes almost a year since the Clear Access Clear Waters Charter was launched in Westminster in 2018 and represents great progress in establishing the case for fair, shared, sustainable access for all.
