Period of National Mourning

Bonnie Armstrong • Sep 12, 2022

Canoe Wales has joined the nation in mourning the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and would like to thank her for her lifetime of service to this country. Our, sincere and deepest condolences and sympathies are with the The Royal Family at this time.

The queen

The Royal Household has advised us today that there is no obligation to cancel or postpone events during the period of National Mourning, and this extends to all planned paddlesport events, club and community activity. Therefore, the decision to proceed with events or activities is at the discretion of individual organisers and volunteers.

As a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of National Mourning, we are advising organisers to hold a period of silence and/or play the National Anthem at the start of events and inform paddlers that they may wear black armbands if they wish. If you are due to attend an event this weekend and the event has been cancelled by the organiser, you will be emailed directly.

Events and activities on the day of the State Funeral

The date and time of the State Funeral will be confirmed in due course. Canoe Wales will provide further information for events and activities due to take place on this day once those details have been published.
