New UK agreement signed with British Canoeing, SCA and CANI

Canoe Wales • Feb 11, 2019

British Canoeing, The Scottish Canoe Association, Canoe Wales and The Canoe Association of Northern Ireland are delighted to announce that they have recently entered into The UK Agreement, which clearly defines how the organisations will work together in the future. This replaces the Single Agreement of 2003.

The UK Agreement recognises that the four organisations are legally independent of each other, with their own separate Boards. It confirms the UK and English responsibilities of British Canoeing, the responsibilities of each of the other National Associations and the financial arrangements between the parties.

The Agreement clarifies that British Canoeing operates membership services for its members in England, whilst The Scottish Canoe Association, Canoe Wales and The Canoe Association of Northern Ireland each have the responsibility to manage their own membership services for paddlers and clubs.

The Agreement has brought clarity to the governing bodies around how coaching, competitions and events, membership services and development programmes and initiatives throughout the UK are developed, managed and financed, but it has not changed any of the rights of members.

Each of the governing bodies will now examine whether changes are required to their own governance documents to reflect the UK Agreement, with a view to this being fully completed by the end of 2019.
