MAIB Report into the Haverfordwest tragedy released on 08 December 2022

Canoe Wales, alongside British Canoeing and the other national associations for paddlesport in the UK, acknowledge the findings and the recommendations published yesterday by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB), in regards to the fatal incident on the River Cleddau, near Haverfordwest on 30 October 2021.

Canoe Wales has worked closely with the other canoeing national associations to fully support the MAIB through their investigation.  We have also worked collaboratively within the paddlesport community and industry to improve safety standards and messaging.

We will continue to work with the relevant organisations to ensure that we can all improve safety measures and education for stand-up-paddleboarding, in order to prevent such an incident occurring again.

Our deepest sympathies and thoughts remain with the family members and friends of those who were involved in this tragic incident.

The full report from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch is available on the Government website.
