Lliw Reservoirs is a site of outstanding natural beauty and part of the Valleys Regional Park in South Wales, one of the special character landscape areas that define Wales. It lies within the Mawr, an area of stunning mountain scenery just outside Swansea. The reservoirs are surrounded by a mosaic of habitats and support a wide diversity of flora and fauna, many of which are considered rare. The site is already very popular with local people and has a café, toilets and car parking on site.
Dŵr Cymru / Welsh Water has a long-term aspiration to develop more sites as hubs for recreation, health and wellbeing, reconnecting people with water and our beautiful environment. Working in partnership with Natural Resources Wales, Swansea Council and Canoe Wales, a pontoon that allows easy access to water for people of all abilities has been installed, as well as washdown facilities for biosecurity (Check Clean Dry).
Welsh Water is now offering the opportunity for an interested party to manage watersports activities at Lower Lliw reservoir for a 12-month period. This might include: equipment hire of stand-up paddle boards, canoes and kayaks (or other non-motorised watersports suitable for launching from the designated slipway), guided activities, tuition, and sale of self-launch permits.
