Notice of AGM

Notice is hereby given that the 2021 Annual General Meeting of Canoe Wales will be held online via Zoom on Monday 11 October 2021 from 7pm. The meeting will be followed by an informal Q&A session with members of the Board of Directors and Staff.

All On the Water and On the Bank members over the age of 16 are entitled to vote at the AGM - and all other members of Canoe Wales are welcome to attend. You will need to book online via our Member Portal to secure your free ticket to the AGM, and then closer to the date of the event we will send you a Zoom link to access the meeting. You should not need any special software to access the meeting as Zoom allows you to attend in your web browser, but you will need a reliable internet connection and speakers, and preferably an integrated microphone and video camera if you would like to actively participate in the meeting. If you have any questions or concerns about how to join the meeting online, please contact us at admin@canoewales.com and we can provide you with support in advance of the meeting.

When registering your attendance, we will ask you to submit any questions for the Q&A session in advance to help us plan the evening and ensure we answer everyone's questions. There will also be an online chat function available to ask questions on the day but we will give priority to questions submitted in advance.

The AGM Agenda and Papers will be made available below.

If you are a voting member and for any reason you are unable to attend, then you are entitled to appoint a proxy to attend and vote in your place but clicking the link below to fill out the Proxy Form.

All documents are available in large print or alternative formats, on request.

Why join us at the AGM?

The Canoe Wales AGM is your chance to hear about updates over the last 12 months and future developments at Canoe Wales. You will be able to ask questions directly to the staff and directors and hear detailed reports relating to our activity and finances. The recovery from COVID-19 is a particularly important time for Canoe Wales to support the paddling community – so, if there is something you think you should be doing more of – now is your chance to let us know!

Our staff and directors will be on hand throughout to answer any questions verbally or in the chat. We’ll also have Q&A sessions throughout and at the end of proceedings.

This year, as well as presenting the annual report and electing members to the Board of Directors, there will be two engaging presentations:

Stand Up Paddleboarding - Phil Scowcroft

Phil Scowcroft, Club Support Officer for British Canoeing, will be delivering a presentation on SUP. The talk will cover everything from the history and origins of SUP and its recent increase in popularity, to its gender equality, different SUP disciplines, activity ideas for SUP sessions and safety considerations - and will finish with a look at how SUP is evolving. This talk is intended to give members, clubs, providers and other affiliated organisations all the information you need to get started with SUP, and will finish with a short Q&A to ask any burning questions.

Amlwch Canoe Club - Phil Edwards

Phil Edwards from Amlwch Canoe Club will be talking about how the club has made a very successful return from COVID-19. His talk will include how the club managed during lockdowns, how membership was affected, the return to paddling with changes to restrictions, activity run over the summer and how it coped with large numbers of new paddlers. Phil will close with a review of where the club is now, some learns and what could be done differently next time.
