A full-on summer programme!

Jonathan Davies • Aug 31, 2023

Training and competing - Sault Brenaz, Bourg St Maurice, Tryweryn, Grandtully, Pinkston and HPP.

Jonathan Davies -  Canoe Wales Talent Pathway Officer gives a personal insight into the busy summer for the Junior Squad.

Camps: Sault Brenaz - France, Bourg St Maurice - France, Tryweryn - Wales, Grandtully - Scotland, Pinkston- Scotland and Holme Pierrepont - England.

Canoe Wales (Squad) summer objective:

For all paddlers to train alongside one another no matter their level of ability or experience, to support one another, experience training at as many different whitewater venues, and to progress their confidence in whitewater.

I was, fortunately, able to work at all the above camps, and I can honestly say that I think that the Canoe Wales programme achieved all the above and much, much, more.

What is Slalom Kayaking?

I was so proud to see Performance Paddlers and Talent Paddlers training alongside Regional Paddlers, and for the Regional Paddlers to be gaining so much support and encouragement from the Talent and Performance Paddlers across all the camps.

Most of us have just returned from a week in Pinkston, and some even a few days at Grandtully. I have seen such an improvement of paddlers' confidence and technical ability with paddlers also being able to transfer these newfound skills from one training site to another, and straight into racing.

It's not all about training, paddlers were able to experience Hydrospeeding, a jungle gym, and there was even a Coach seen going down the course on the back of an inflatable duck!

{Paddlers}We’re now heading into the last part of the racing season so use all the new skills you have learnt and perfected over the summer, and enjoy racing! Massive well done to Sadie this weekend for kicking off the end of racing for the team with promotion to Prem!
