CANALS

There are four wonderful Welsh canals managed by Glandŵr Cymru, the Canal & River Trust in Wales. You must have a waterways licence to paddle on these canals. Canoe Wales and British Canoeing membership includes this licence - and is incredible value compared to purchasing a licence directly.

If you're considering paddling through one of the tunnels on our canals, make sure you've read the Tunnel Safety Guidance from Glandwr Cymru (Canal & River Trust in Wales). Follow all instructions and take a bright headtorch (80+ lumens).


For safety reasons all users of canoes/kayaks and other personal watercraft must portage locks, manned or unmanned due to the unusual and unpredictable water flows around the structures.
