Afon Dulas Nearby Rivers: Wye catchment - Rhayader to Hay
A pleasant, easy, spate tributary of the Irfon. The Irfon is an excellent touring river, but if you are paddling at this grade and the rivers are in spate, then this is a nice extra or alternative. Glan Dulas Bridge to Garth 5 km grade I to II; one weir; few fences
Turn off north in Garth; bear left and join the B4358. It is possible to access onto the river upstream from the left bank GR947532. The river needs to be at a good level, with no rocks visible at the put-in. The river is very pretty, with easy class I to II rapids as it winds down to Garth. A few fences needed portaging, but this was no great shakes. The wildlife is brilliant, and small groups will almost certainly see the flash of turquoise as the kingfisher leads off downstream. About halfway down is an obvious weir with a narrow salmon shoot on the right. This is easily shot in the middle of the main shoot. A few dilapidated footbridges are passed on the way to the egress - river right, above or below the two bridges in Garth GR949496. |
