Afon Angell Nearby Rivers: West Coast and Machynlleth
Although some jungle warfare skills are required on the upper bit, the lower section is steep and exciting on this most unlikely of hill streams. Cefn Gwyn to Aberangell 2 km grade IV to V
Turn off the A470 to the village of Aberangell and follow the steep road up out of the village until the river becomes visible. When the road comes very close to the river by a phone box and bridge, access may be had GR833104. "The first kilometre to the next road bridge is a bit like Vietnam" - was Franco Ferrero’s description of the first bit of bramble-bashing. The fall under the next bridge heralds more exciting things. A small weir follows, before a final steep set of rapids of class IV to V which lead past a forest walk up the Angell. Egress between the two small bridges in the village GR846099. Combined with the Dugoed or the Twymyn, this makes for an excellent day out. |
