Carreg Cennen Castle to Tywi confluence

9 km grade II

Follow the signs to Trapp and the Castle, which are off the A483 Ammanford to Llandeilo road. A small road leads off right before the castle in the direction of the river. Access may be made below a small bridge GR672190, which crosses the stream.

This could be the longest river in Wales or, at least, that is how it might feel if paddling during summer on a quickly disappearing flood. A pity, really, as the access onto the river below the mighty stronghold of the last Prince of Wales is excellent - for those canoeists whose hopes and expectations exceed waves and stoppers.

In the height of summer, the paddler is quickly battling through branches and fences. The water is never more than grade II. It may well be better to gain access at the little bridge above the A483 road and thus miss out much of the hassle of trees GR627181. The paddling below is of much better quality.

Egress above the bridge in Ffairfach into the convenient car park on the right GR632215.
