8 km

Access:

Off A483(T) Llandovery to Builth road

Notes:

Portages - one fence

Quality:

A beautiful little river with crystal clear water only somewhat spoilt by a few low trees and fences. One, usually shootable weir just below egress that needs care in high water.

Cynghardy to Llandovery

Grade I to II (one portage - fence)

Take the A483 Llandovery to Builth road up to the small village of Cynghordy where a left-hand road crosses the river at GR806400. Access can be had over the bridge arch itself onto the river bank. The water is only a gentle grade I but beware fences en-route down to the two small bridges about one kilometre below - I portaged one. Trees, too, can be a nuisance but improve greatly below the second bridge. A few broken boulder weir steps liven up the proceedings en-route to the road bridge. The wildlife is excellent. Below Maesllydan Hall bridge there are a couple of broken weirs which can be safely shot en-route down to egress on the right bank, just above the A4069 road bridge GR772343. Alternatively, finish further down the Tywi - but be careful of the weir just below the bridge - which is nasty in big water.
