Cwm Du Falls to Canal

1 km grade IV; possible tree portages

Turn off the A4067 a few miles north of Pontardawe into the village of Cilmaengwyn. It is possible to work your way up through the estate, where there is a track that leads up to an old mine. It is possible to walk upstream for about ten minutes or so until a large 20-foot fall is reached GR739068. This has been run but falls into a very dubious plunge pool. The river basically consists of a few sharp drops with a wild, sloping ramp about halfway down. Finish the run immediately below a little weir but before the river sumps under the canal bridge at GR742059.
