Canoe Wales is the national governing body for paddle sport in Wales. We:

  • Manage the National White Water Centre which is located on the river Tryweryn in Bala, North Wales
  • Represent the interests of our club and individual members
  • Advocate on behalf of the interests of the sport in Wales
  • Provide coaching and development programmes from local to international level
  • Stage national and international competitions.

Aberfan Canoe Club - Tony Griffiths - 01443 413 122: Tony.Griffiths@carillionplc.com - Club night is on Friday nighst at the Aberfan Community Centre from 7-10pm for general sessions. Club interests include kayaking, canoeing, polo, river touring & general recreation.  The club can accommodate beginners and people with disabilities and offers coaching in both Welsh and English.  The club has Senior & Junior sections.

Brecon Canoe Club - Mrs Kathy Haye, 8 Camden Road, Brecon LD3 7BU -  01874 625184 membership@breconcanoeclub.org.uk  - www.breconcanoeclub.org.uk - During summer the club meets on Wednesday evenings at Brecon Promenade.  Pool sessions are held on Monday evenings from September to March at Brecon Leisure Centre. The club offers opportunities for flat water and white water touring for kayak and canoe, training for adults and youngsters. We are a family-friendly club.  Home waters are the Usk, Wye and Brecon to Monmouth Canal.  BCC can accommodate beginners and people with disabilities.

Bridgend Canoe Club - Mrs Ruth Saxon, 26 Westward Place, Llangewydd Court, Bridgend, CF31 4XA – 01656 669 687 – ruth@saxon3032.fsnet.co.uk www.bridgendcanoeclub.co.uk   - The Club meets at Pencoed Swimming Pool each Wednesday night from 8 to 10 Slalom and Polo sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Clubs’ home river is the River Ogmore and its members compete in National, South West and Welsh Canoe Polo Leagues at senior level as well as in Welsh Leagues/Tournaments at youth and under 14 level. This year the club will be running its first ranking slalom event.  Brodgend can accommodate beginners and people with disabilities.

Cardiff Canoe Club,  - Phil Keable, 02920 889108 – phil.keable@tiscali.co.uk   - The club meets for pool sessions on Wednesdays at Splott and at Cardiff Bay on Tuesdays.  Its paddlers use Cosmeston Lakes (Penarth) on Thursday and Friday evenings and its home waters are the Taff, Wye, Rhondda, Rhymny and the Usk.

Dragon Paddlers – Hywel Jones, 17 Orchard Castle, Y Ddraenen, Caerdydd CF14 9BA - 02920 625 064 email: hywelm.jones@talk21.com - www.dragonpaddlers.org.uk - An active club established in 1983, welcoming to families and individuals – beginners and experienced paddlers. We run two pool sessions each week at Fitzalan High School, Lawrenny Avenue, Cardiff on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 and then on Wednesday from 10:00 to 20:00. Members also paddle regularly on rivers and the sea (touring and surfing) throughout the year.  We have first language Welsh speakers amongst our members.  We can accommodate beginners and may be able to accommodate disabled people, dependant on their level of disability.

Glam Boaters - Owen Struthers – Ty Isaf Farm, Llansor, Caerleon, Newport, NP18 1L The club meets at Easton Leis. Centre, Cardiff,Mondays 7-8pm & 8-9pm (Juniors); Wednesdays 8-9.30pm.  Home waters - Taff, Rhondda, Usk & Wye.  Interested in kayaking, open canoeing, freestyle, surf, sprint racing, river touring and general recreation.  Can accommodate beginners & people with disabilities.

Glam Boaters Junior Club Nik Mason, 666 Newport Road, Rumney Hill, Cardiff CF3 4DF -  The club welcomes paddlers of all abilities to its venue at Rumney Hill, Cardiff. Members of the Welsh Special Olympics Squad take part in our sessions.

Glasbury Paddlers - Peter Mayall – 01497 847 181 – sales@psmoutdoors.co.uk T he club meets every Tues. evening 6.30pm at Glasbury from April to September for River Wye paddling and training.  Introduction to paddling kayaks and canoes, star tests, paddle power scheme and river trips.. The club meetings are held in the indoor pool at the Riverside Caravan park, Bronllys at 7pm on Tuesday evenings from October to March– indoor pool sessions and weekend river trips.    Interested in kayaking, canoeing, surf and river touring.  Can accommodate beginners and people with disabilities.

Rhondda Paddlers - Matthew Free : 07795 391668 : matt.free@sky.com  Rhondda Paddles is a family friendly canoe club that meets at a variety of venues and times throughout the week, as well as on local waters such as the River Taff, local lakes and coastal areas at weekends. The club participates in a range of disciplines including white water kayaking, open canoeing, canoe polo, surf and sea kayaking. We have some first language Welsh speakers amongst members and can accommodate beginners & people with disabilities. Although the club currently has a waiting list for non-coaching applicants, existing coaches would be welcomed without being added to the waiting list.
