Canoe Wales is the national governing body for paddle sport in Wales. We:

  • Manage the National White Water Centre which is located on the river Tryweryn in Bala, North Wales
  • Represent the interests of our club and individual members
  • Advocate on behalf of the interests of the sport in Wales
  • Provide coaching and development programmes from local to international level
  • Stage national and international competitions.

Providing Foundation Modules

In order to provide any of the foundation modules, you must send us an application outlining your experience and knowledge of the areas covered by the module(s) you wish to deliver. Tutors are expected to have degree level knowledge of the subject area, and have experience tutoring coaches.Your application can be sent by email to either the National Development Officer or the Coach Education Co-ordinator at the usual postal address.

Administration of Foundation Modules

  • Course Authorisation is required, obtained by contacting us
  • A Course Schedule must be returned to us, within 7 days of the course, with the relevant certification fees. A course schedule is provided by us when we give you the Course Authorisation Number.
  • The certification fees are £5 for BCU Members, £10 for non-members.
  • The recommended ratio for the Foundation Modules is 1:12. This can be raised to 1:20 with the support of a coach with degree level knowledge in the specific subject area. It is the lead Tutor's responsibility to ensure the second member of staff is suitably experienced. In order to facilitate group work a minimum of 4 candidates is required.
