Four of the hardest rivers in this area, the Goedal, Teigl, Cynfal and Lower Prysor empty into, and become, the placid and delightful Dwyryd. The bottom section is easier on an outgoing tide and, with properly qualified leadership, this is a great trip to do. The upper section from Dol y Moch bridge is a beautiful class II.

Lower Prysor bridge to Borth y Gest harbour

Access can be made a little way below the little bridge over the Lower Prysor GR653397. Alternatively, there is a small layby right by the river and situated on the A487 between Maentwrog and Porthmadog GR648402. However, both starts need fairly high tides to be useable.

The river is flat and delightful as it winds its estuarine way past the fascinating village of Portmeirion. Many will want to visit this most well-known of Clough William-Ellis’ designs.

Borth y Gest harbour (via Porthmadog) makes for a charming finish. Good parking, toilets, plus a café which serves steaming mugs of tea - what more could a paddler ask for? GR565375.
