Canoe Wales is the national governing body for paddle sport in Wales. We:

  • Manage the National White Water Centre which is located on the river Tryweryn in Bala, North Wales
  • Represent the interests of our club and individual members
  • Advocate on behalf of the interests of the sport in Wales
  • Provide coaching and development programmes from local to international level
  • Stage national and international competitions.

Outdoor Education and Paddlesport

Level:

This module is aimed at Level 1 or Level 2 coaches, but can be attended by anyone interested.

Background / aims:

What is coaching in the outdoors? Many definitions exist but general agreement within research and literature is:
"Education for the outdoors and the use of resources outdoors to meet educational goals."

This module is designed to introduce paddlesport coaches to the key concepts of paddlesport coaching in the outdoors.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course, you should be able to:
  • consider the role of paddlesport in outdoor education
  • appreciate the importance of current research to support our work as coaches
  • raise the importance of setting clear outcomes to meet our goals in outdoor education
  • identify how we might categorise goals so that we can develop better strategies to meet them
  • develop your own ways forward to incorporate the key ideas that form this presentation into paddlesport coaching relating to the individual, group or environment
