CLUB DEVELOPMENT

NORTH WALES CLUB DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Trys Burke has been appointed as the Club Development Officer for the North Wales Region. The WCA is putting a considerable ammount of resources into club development, recognising that this forms the bedrock of our sport. Trys will continue as Community Coach North Wales as well. It is anticipated that clubs will feel the benefit very quickly. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome Trys to her new role, and look forwards to working with her. She can be contacted by e-mail trysburke@hotmail.co.uk

WCA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The format for the above championships is as follows

SCHOOLS CANOEING CLUBS

The First Welsh Schools Championship was won by Ysgol Y Berwyn , Bala.

150 school children took part on the day with some incredibly exciting races throughout the day culminating in bell boat races involving each schools entire team.

The event was a huge success in terms of participation and enjoyment and those present either watching or officiating were affected by the energy and excitement generated by the competitors.

I should like to thank all those who helped put the event on , and all those teachers, managers and children who took part. Next year will be bigger, but more exciting ?? we'll see !

Hopefully this event will grow , and next year there will be regional qualifying events leading up to a national finals in the summer.

RESULTS

1ST Ysgol Y Berwyn, Bala

2ND Coed Cae, Llanelli

3RD Porth Community School

4TH Gwernyfed, Brecon

BELLBOAT

1ST Dyffryn Taf, Whitland

2ND Ysgol Y Berwyn

3RD Gwernyfed

The primary aim of this event is to promote canoeing/kayaking in schools, and to eventually see school canoeing clubs all across wales. The WCA will provide taster sessions for schools, provide a peripatetic canoe service where necessary, provide help for teachers to acces the coaching system and get them to a level where they can run a school canoe club without outside help, and to guide schools towards existing clubs and facilities.

Please make contact if you're at school (teacher, pupil, support staff, head ,whatever) for more information.

I also have plans for a Welsh University Champs and FE/HE College Champs for next academic year, news to follow.

Again if you're interested in this please get in touch.

MAWDDACH PADDLESPORT PROMOTION !!

The weekend of 20/21 september is the date for a paddlesport promotion event at Penmaen Pool, Dolgellau. This event is open to all Clubs and the general public.

There are two aims, one is to promote the sport by offering ' come and try it ' sessions in a variety of different boats, the second is to put on a display of paddling, which will include races, a slalom 'wiggle test', and an exciting QUADATHLON CHALLENGE. This will incorporate cycling, running, swimming, and paddling, and can be entered individually or as teams.

For details contact myself or Trys Burke.
