Coaching
Helping other people to enjoy canoeing or kayaking can be extremely rewarding and this section of the website is all about helping you to do just that. Whether you are new to the sport and new to coaching or an experienced coach working in advanced conditions, we hope we can help you to find any information you need.
Canoe Wales is Wales' National Governing Body of paddlesport, which is a part of the UK's umbrella governing body, the British Canoe Union. Over the past few years, the BCU have been bringing in a new coaching system which they hope to improve the experience of paddlers coming in to the sport by increasing the standard of coaching across the sport. This new scheme is endorsed by the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) which will allow coaches to apply their coaching knowledge to other sports more easily. Canoe Wales are in charge of operating these new awards within Wales and this section should explain all you need to know about getting involved in coaching paddlesports within Wales. Please click here for an overview of the new scheme qualifications.
If you are new to coaching, or hold no BCU coaching qualifications, please check out the section about becoming a coach.
During the roll-out period of the new scheme there has been some confusion regarding the new awards, particularly for coaches qualified within the old scheme. One of our primary aims here in the coaching department, is to ensure that coaches who were qualified under the old scheme do not feel shut out and understand how they can continue to operate, how they can continue to progress and how the can fit in to the new scheme, should they wish to. It was with that in mind that we came up with this document outlining progression options for all old scheme coaches.
Please note that this section is still under construction and as such, not all pages will be complete. We hope to have this section fully completed by the end of January 2012. In the meantime, you may find the information you require on either the Canoe England or the Scottish Canoe Association websites. If there is any information you cannot find, please contact marianne.davies@canoewales.com or nigel.midgley@canoewales.com. Thank you for your patience.
