Afon Ceidiog Nearby Rivers: Dee/Dyfrdwy - Lake Bala to Llangollen
The Ceidiog is a pleasant little stream running out of Cwm Pennant towards the Dee. In fact, it can be used as an alternative starting point for the river Dee, if you so wish. Pennant to Llandrillo 3 km grade II; one portage - fence
From the beautiful village of Llandrillo (on the B4401), turn off upstream just west of the river and continue for about three kilometres to where access can be made at the little Pennant bridge GR027342. This is by a public telephone. The river needs to be in a reasonable spate to be worth doing. It pays to get on about ten metres downstream of the bridge, thus avoiding an annoying fence that is just out of sight around the corner. The river is a beautiful Grade II as it hurries down to reach the Dee. There were a few fences but only the one under the bridge at Cadwst needed portaging. There are also a few footbridges that are passed en-route, one of which is a contender for the most dilapidated in Wales. Finish the run just below the little weirs at the bridge in town. These are good fun to play in at the right level GR035362. From here to the Dee the river should be flat, but I haven't done this last section. Take out at GR035371. |
