Sometime things go wrong and regrettably there is a need for paddlers to have insurance should an accident occur. That is why one of the benefits we offer our members is insurance cover, so that you can have complete piece of mind when paddling or coaching.

Third party insurance cover is a benefit of comprehensive Canoe Wales and BCU membership. The insurance applies to;

  • Individual comprehensive Canoe Wales members who are residents in the UK
  • Affiliated clubs
  • Registered members of affiliated clubs, who are resident in the UK

The limit of indemnity for any one accident is to a maximum of £10,000,000 for a claim arising from loss, injury to, the death of or damage to the property of a third party. It also covers legal liability.

Following on from a recent review of our insurance services, our new insurance broker Jelf Group has also negotiated an increase in our Professional Indemnity limits from £5,000,000 to £10,000,000 at no extra cost. Furthermore, all members now automatically have £5,000 of Personal Accident cover included within their annual subscription fees with an option to ‘trade up’ and buy additional cover if so required.

The insurance is valid for any canoeing / kayaking or related activity within the UK and European Union (EU). Member to member liability is included.

Coaches acting in an instructional capacity are covered, including paid coaching work up to a value of £25,000 in any one year (gross turnover). Please note that this is only the case if you are trading under your own name, as should a claim be taken to our insurance brokers Jelf Group for any other trading name, you will not be covered. A trading name may not necessarily be a registered company name, it may just be a brand name, logo or website that you use to promote your services as a coach, but if that uses a name other than your own and the claim comes through using that name, you will not be covered.

We advise that if you are working for someone else, you should ensure that they not only have the adequate 3rd party liability, but also have Employers Liability in place.

If you are unsure whether you are covered for the coaching that you do, please contact dedicated Canoe Wales insurance team at Jelf Group* on 01905 892 365 or alternatively by email on canoewales@jelfgroup.com.

As part of even more ‘added value’ additional products and services for members, Canoe Wales will soon be offering members the opportunity to purchase an exclusive and unique Canoe / Kayak theft and damage cover product as well as a Travel Insurance product to cover members for not only canoeing and kayaking activities but also for UK and overseas family holidays too.
